Inspired by the natural landscape, and the wildlife that inhabits it, Jo particularly loves scenes with strong lines and perspective. She observes the world in terms of how to represent it in an interesting way, using varied marks and brushstrokes.
Jo works mainly in acrylics and pastel, enjoying the variety of techniques that can be employed with each medium. In particular, she likes to layer up thin layers of translucent paint to make interesting pictures with depth and combinations of colours. Jo does the same with pastels, liking definite marks and layers rather than a blended look.
Jo’s always loved creating – whether that’s picking up a pencil to do a detailed drawing, or working on large, colourful, expressive pieces. Self-taught, she enjoys attending workshops to develop her work and approaches life with the motto ‘stay curious’.
Jo sells her originals, prints, cards and cushions in local galleries and shops, and also through her website, and happily takes commissions for landscapes & pet portraits, many of which can also be viewed on her website.
