Jane Morton Driscoll

Jane Morton Driscoll is a calligraphy artist with a passion for using art as a tool for emotional well-being. She learned calligraphy to improve her mental health and loved it some much that she started her own business.  She now work with a wide range of clients on wedding stationery, commission work and corporate events such as live engraving. Jane lives for the relaxing process of creating modern calligraphy pieces. She works from her home studio to create calligraphy and hand engraving commissions. Jane also teaches calligraphy locally to beginners and improvers and loves using her skills from her previous teaching career to inspire others to learn this rewarding art form.

She uses a traditional pointed dip pen to create her artwork along with a range of different inks. The nib requires precise and delicate handling to create the thick and thin strokes that characterise modern calligraphy. She hand engraves on glass using words and botanicals to create beautiful bespoke gifts for clients.

Jane gets great pleasure from bringing a clients dreams to life on paper, taking great care to involve them throughout the process. She loves using calligraphy on unconventional surfaces from agate slices to ceramic baubles. She is inspired by the feeling she gets when she is in the zone creating. There is an enormous sense of well-being when she sees the tines of her nib moving across the paper making beautiful thick and thin lines. It’s a very therapeutic activity and she always feel very relaxed after a calligraphy session, particularly the longer commissions! She also love the sense of community amongst calligraphy artists. Although they are all in the same market, they really encourage and support each other by sharing tips on which inks work best or how to master a new technique. The phrase ‘community over competition’ springs to mind.

Jane’s work can be seen in Floralia Perfume Boutique, Buttermarket, from 10 – 16 October
